Do you know which is the most powerful muscle in our body?

Index

What is the most powerful and strongest muscle in relation to its size and where is it located?

If many of you thought about the tongue, you'd be mistaken. The tongue is the strongest muscle group, but the strongest (most powerful) muscle relative to its size is the masseter, located in the head and responsible for closing and retracting the jaw.

It is a quadrilateral muscle that covers the lateral surface of the jaw, it is formed by two fascicles, which are inserted into the lower edge of the zygomatic arch and into the jaw.

Its function is to control mouth opening and chewing. It is responsible for closing the jaw, and can exert a pressure of about 70 kilograms per square centimeter in the bite of an adult human. This muscle is a powerful lever, capable of even breaking the jawbone if it contracted to its fullest extent.
